TRAVEL ITINERARY - 6 DAY BEST OF ICELAND TRIP

DAY 1: WELCOME TO ICELAND – REYKJAVÍK

Arrival at Keflavík International Airport and collection of your rental car directly at the airport. Drive to Reykjavík and spend your first night in a centrally located hotel in the capital.

Reykjavík’s colorful houses, especially around Skólavörðustígur street with Hallgrímskirkja church in the background, give the city a fairy-tale charm. Some of these little homes, decorated with flowers or elves, look as if they came straight out of childhood stories. At the same time, Reykjavík is a vibrant metropolitan city, full of art, gourmet restaurants, and lively nightlife.

In the evening, join a Northern Lights tour with a professional local guide. For many travelers, witnessing the Aurora Borealis is a lifelong dream. With us, you will have the chance to hunt for this natural wonder far away from the city’s artificial lights. The excursion lasts around 3 hours and includes audio guides in 10 languages so you can also learn about the science behind this breathtaking phenomenon.

Accommodation: 3***–4**** hotel in central Reykjavík.

DAY 2: THE GOLDEN CIRCLE – ÞINGVELLIR – GEYSIR – GULLFOSS – KERID

After breakfast, begin your journey on Iceland’s most famous route: the Golden Circle. This day includes:

• Þingvellir National Park – where the tectonic plates of Europe and North America meet.

• Gullfoss – the “Golden Waterfall,” cascading powerfully into a deep canyon.

• Geysir geothermal area – home of Strokkur, which erupts every few minutes.

• Kerid volcanic crater – a colorful crater lake worth visiting in the afternoon.

Accommodation: South Iceland in a hotel with thermal pools and hot tubs (Hotel Örk or similar). The location is ideal for spotting the Northern Lights on your own. Dinner reservations at the hotel are recommended.

DAY 3: SOUTH COAST OF ICELAND

Breakfast buffet at the hotel. Today you will explore Iceland’s dramatic South Coast:

• Seljalandsfoss waterfall – famous for the pathway that allows you to walk behind the curtain of water (when conditions permit).

• Eyjafjallajökull volcano – known worldwide for the 2010 eruption that disrupted air traffic.

• Skógafoss waterfall – one of the most iconic in the country.

• Mýrdalsjökull glacier – visible if weather conditions allow.

• Vík village – home to Reynisfjara, one of the most beautiful black sand beaches in the world.

Continue towards the Vatnajökull glacier area for your overnight stay. If skies are clear, this is also a perfect place to watch the Northern Lights.

Accommodation: Hotel Laki or similar, South Coast. Optional dinner buffet available.

DAY 4: VATNAJÖKULL GLACIER AREA

Breakfast at the hotel. Today is dedicated to exploring Iceland’s glaciers:

• Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon – admire icebergs floating on the glacial lake. You may recognize this location from films such as Die Another Day (James Bond), Batman Begins, or The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.

• Diamond Beach – just across from the lagoon, where ice chunks glisten like jewels on the black sand.

• Skaftafell National Park – with its scenic glacier tongues and hiking trails.

• Reynisfjara beach & Reynisdrangar cliffs – dramatic basalt formations and puffin nesting grounds (in season).

• Traditional turf houses at Skógar – a glimpse into Iceland’s past.

Return to Reykjavík and drop off your car at our city office.
Accommodation: Central Reykjavík with personalized dinner recommendations.

DAY 5: ERUPTION AREA – GUIDED TOUR

Breakfast at the hotel. Join an excursion to the volcanic eruption area with a professional English-speaking guide. Learn about Iceland’s recent eruptions and witness this unique natural spectacle in safety.

Accommodation: Reykjavík.

DAY 6: BLUE LAGOON – DEPARTURE

Breakfast buffet at the hotel. Before your flight, you may choose to visit the world-famous Blue Lagoon. This geothermal spa, surrounded by lava fields, is one of Iceland’s most iconic attractions and has been awarded multiple times as one of the best healing spas in the world.

Transfer from Reykjavík to Keflavík Airport is included. You may also upgrade to a private taxi transfer and combine it with a Blue Lagoon visit, depending on your flight schedule.
