MORE INFORMATION ABOUT THE MÝVATN NATURE BATHS

The Mývatn Lagoon is a man-made geothermal spa, covered at its bottom by sand and gravel. The characteristics of the water are unique in many ways, being ideal for bathing thanks to the large amount of minerals it contains. Due to its chemical composition, unwanted bacteria and vegetation do not thrive in the Mývatn Nature Baths, making the use of chlorine or any other disinfectant unnecessary. The water in the Mývatn Lagoon comes directly from the National Power Company at Bjarnarflag in North Iceland. The water has a temperature of approximately 130 ° C when it reaches the huge basin next to the lagoon, forming an impressive artificial hot spring. In total, the lagoon and the basin contain around 3.5 million liters of water with a temperature of 36 - 40 ° C. Geothermal water in Iceland generally contains some sulfur, especially in this area of the Mývatn Lagoon. This has a positive effect on asthma and other respiratory diseases, as well as people with skin problems. When entering the water, wearing brass or silver jewelry should be avoided as they turn black and can be damaged. You can put your belongings in the locker or leave valuables in a safe at the reception. All guests must shower thoroughly before entering the Lagoon.
