HELICOPTERS FOR YOUR TOUR ARE MODERN AND SAFE

The helicopters used for the volcano eruption tours are: Airbus EC130 B4 and  AS350 B2 Ecureuil Astar. The Airbus helicopter can carry up to 6 passengers and can reach a speed up to 222 km/120 knots. The endurance of this helicopter type is up to 4 hours. We proudly anounce that this is the only Airbus helicopter in Iceland. Then the AS350 B2 Ecureuil - Astar  can take up to 5 passengers with a maximmum speed up to 230 km/125 knots. The endurance of this helicopter is up to 3:10 hours.

HELICOPTER TOUR - QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

What should you bring? No matter what time of year you decide to travel to Iceland, it is always important to bring a proper waterproof jacket, warm clothes and, good waterproof shoes. For the helicopter tour you should present your travel document and voucher.

It it safe to fly over a volcano with a helicopter?  Yes, we think so. So far we have made hunderds of flights over the eruption area, and no problems have occured. Helicopters are not so sensitive to encounters to clouds of volcanic ash like the planes are, where there it is a serious concern. Helicopters do not have jet engines and other aircraft components like planes, which are so vulnerable to damage by volcanic ash. We have sold many flights for helicopter sightseeing tours over the eruption in 2021, 2022, 2023 and also 2024 on Iceland with no problematic issues regarding security. Because security comes first! So sometimes the flights are cancelled due to climatological or volcanic conditions. In this case our clients are entitled to 100% refund of course, or they can reschedule their flight.

VOLCANO ERUPTIONS IN REYKJANES ON ICELAND 

A new fissure eruption started on Reykjanes Peninsula on November 20th 2024 by Sundhnúksgígar crater, marking the seventh eruption in the area since December 2023.

On March 19th, 2021 the eruption of the Fagradalsfjall volcano started for the first time after of hundreds years of silence. This eruption lasted until September of 2021 and attracted hundreds of thousands of visitors. Than it stopped. But Iceland began to be a spectacle of nature again when the eruption started on 3rd August 2022 and lasted until 21st September 2022. This eruption started in Meradalir Iceland was much bigger and scientist predicted it could last for decades. But in the end it lasted only for 3 weeks. Another eruption took place from 10th July until 7th August 2023. The view of all these eruptions was unique and spectacular, so it attracted and still attracts thousands of tourist. This volcanic zone located on the Reykjanes Peninsula has up to six volcanic systems, lined up side by side.

The eruption of the volcano in 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024 did not pose a threat to populated aeas or infrastructure in Iceland, hence it was possible to fly over the eruption safely and admire the power of lava flowing over the land. The Reykjanes Peninsula is an area famous for beinng full of geothermal wonders. In fact, the peninsula is a UNESCO Global Geopark and is part of the global network of geoparks. The peninsula is made up of mountains of volcanic tuff that were formed in subglacial eruptions and several series of craters and already mentioned volcanic systems.
