ITINERARY OF THE TRIP NORTHERN LIGHTS AND Y ERUPTION AREA IN ICELAND
DAY 1: ARRIVAL TO ICELAND 10.9. 2023
The trip starts with the arrival of your flight at Keflavík International Airport followed by the pick up of the vehicle at our rental office at the airport. Pick up process is fast with your voucher. The vehicles have unlimited mileage and superior insurance already included. With supplement you can change it for a 4x4 model if you wish.
The entrance to Blue Lagoon is included in your trip. Depending on your flight schedule you can visit it on the first day (as it is located 20 minutes from the airport) or you can visit it on the last day of your trip. The itinerary will be tailored to your needs.
The eruption area visit: depending on your flight schedule and the evolution of the eruption the same day of your arrival you can consider these options. First (if the area is safe) with the recommended itinerary you can visit the eruption zone on your own following the instructions at: www.safetravel.is. Or arriving to Reykajvík you can take the helicopter flight over the volcano (this option can be booked here and must be booked in advance because the demand is greater than the supply: https://viajesislandia.com/en/volcano-eruption-iceland-helicopter-tour . Another option is to visit the eruption zone with one of our guided tours on the last days of your trip.
Arrival to the capital of Iceland. Visit Reykjavík with our tailor-made itinerary and accommodation in the center of the capital in a great 3*** hotel that we know personally. Restaurants and shopping options are in the close distance of the hotel. Night in the city center of Reykjavík.
DAY 2: GOLDEN CIRCLE 11.9. 2023
Buffet breakfast at the hotel. This tour will allow you to see the most fascinating monuments of Iceland. You will discover the national park of Thingvellir where the first Icelandic parliament was founded in 930, then explore the geothermal area of the Haukadalur valley with the great Geysir that gave its name to all the geysirs on our planet. You will be able to observe the active geysir called Strokkur, which erupts every 5-9 minutes up to a height of 35 meters. You will not miss the Golden Waterfall, Gullfoss. This waterfall in the impressive canyon of the Hvítá River flows down in two steps. Your accommodation for tonight will be in the beautiful hot springs town of Hveragerdi.
Night in the South coast in a hotel with thermal swimming pool, jacuzzi and sauna over a water spring.
DAY 3: SOUTH COAST COAST OF ICELAND 12.9. 2023
Buffet breakfast at the hotel. On the third day you will enjoy the wonders of the south coast of Iceland with its enchanting waterfalls, large volcanoes and beautiful beaches. With our recommended itinerary you will visit the Seljalansfoss waterfalls with the famous passage and its "sister waterfall" the hidden waterfall in the cave. You will also pass the great volcanoes Hekla and Eyjafjalajokull in the distance. You will stop for a while to watch projection of eruptions in this area and current volcanic eruption in Reykjanes with a 4K experience. Afterwards you will continue to Skógafoss, our favorite waterfall. Passing the immense lava field of Eldhraun and Skejdarsandur you will reach the green canyon with "Hidden People" and the Trolls.
Night in the south coast, zone close to glacier Vatnajokull. If there is good visibility the glacier can be seen from the hotel dining room and from some rooms. Optional dinner at the hotel. If there is good visibility you can also observe the northern lights in the area. The hotel has a very favorable location to see the northern lights.
DAY 4: VATNAJOKULL 13.9. 2023
Buffet breakfast at the hotel. If you wish, you can reach the glaciar lagoon Jokulsarlón and the famous Diamond Beach. Or you can visit the Skaftafell National Park with the magnificent glacier tongues.
You should not miss a visit to Reynisfjara beach and the beautiful cliffs of Vík that are like a bird sanctuary. They also have a great tourist charm because of the basalt columns that are located on the beach itself.
Return to Reykjavík. In the evening, you will have a tour with local guide to observe the Northern Lights departing from the capital.
Night in the city center of the capital.
DAY 5: REYKJAVÍK, THE CAPITAL - KEFLAVÍK 14.9. 2023
Buffet breakfast at the hotel. According to your flight schedule we will plan a visit to the Reykjanes peninsula where you can see the current eruption of the volcano Litli-Hrútur and where the beautiful geothermal spa of Blue Lagoon is located. Return of the vehicle at the international airport of Keflavík. End of the trip.
If the flight schedule does not suit you to be able to see the eruption with enough time .... or to be able to enjoy the Blue Lagoon (optional entrance), we can add one more night to the trip, so that you have enough time before your return flight.
